Our Neighbourhood Guide: Oxford Street

This week, Julie and Luciano from our John Lewis Oxford Street concession, give us their insider tips on how to make the most of your trip to the area. From secret haunts of where to dine, pick up a sweet treat or relax with a cocktail after a hard day of shopping, as well as activities to do if your stay is a little longer. Along with styling tips on how to wear their favourite new season pieces from our Spring/Summer collection.

What is the one place you must make sure you visit in the Oxford Street area?

The café and cocktail bar at the rooftop garden of John Lewis Oxford Street. It is open most of the summer and over the Christmas period. In the summer months it is a wonderful and relaxing spot where you can find a variety of juices, smoothies, cocktails and great food, with an amazing view of the city.

Where is your favourite place to get an afternoon sweet treat?

Soho's Secret Tea Room on Greek Street. It is a hidden tea room in the upstairs of a corner pub in Soho, with vintage ambience, vintage China and floral wallpaper. To get access you need to ask at the bar and then you will be taken upstairs behind the bar.

Any insider tips on restaurants to try?

Little Social Restaurant on Pollen Street. With beautiful antique furniture, vintage pictures frames and old Michelin maps adorning the walls, this restaurant's cuisine is typically French, inspired by those lovely old Parisian bistros.

Your favourite spot for relaxing after a hard day of shopping?

The Whip Cocktail Bar on Davies Street. It is a cosy Kentucky Derby-themed cocktail bar with nibbles, perfect for a relaxing afternoon after shopping.

Any activities you’d recommend doing in the area?

A walk around the lake of Regent's Park and enjoy the formal gardens in the south side of the park. Also summer visits to Buckingham Place which opens to the public from July to October.

Your favourite thing about the area you work in?

My favourite thing about the area is the enormous variety of restaurants and cafes. Also, the Open top bus tours which show you all over London.

Favourite pieces of the new collection?

The Bordeaux Top teamed with the Paris Trousers and also the Bordeaux Dress. Graphic patterns have always been my favourites. These pieces are easy to accessorize with a splash of colour, like a chunky red necklace for instance. Coming in later in the season is the floral jumpsuit which is on my must-have purchase list.

What are your favourite beauty and accessory shops in the area that always help complete a look?

My favourite beauty product is Estee Lauder which can be found in John Lewis and all major department stores. It traditional with that all important luxury. For the home it has to be Jo Malone in Regent street where you can book a scented experience. As for accessories just a stroll along Oxford street gives you a wealth of ideas just from looking at the windows!
