Our Neighbourhood Guide: Edinburgh

This week our neighbourhood guide explores the beautiful Scottish capital, Edinburgh. We’ve asked our lovely area manager, Shona from our John Lewis concession in Edinburgh to give us her insider tips on how to make the most of your trip to the area. From the legendary Edinburgh Fringe Festival to famous landmarks and celebrity hotspots, make this city your next must-see destination with our guide. Shona also shares with us her favourite pieces from our AW17 Collection!

What is the one must-see sight/place to visit in your neighbourhood?

When you visit the city it is pretty hard to miss its most famous landmark Edinburgh Castle, it dominates the skyline from its position on Castle Rock and the views are spectacular.

Where is your favourite place to get a brunch/afternoon sweet treat?

The Balmoral Hotel, also known as 'the grand old lady' of Princes Street, is the go to place for afternoon tea - it also goes down nicely with a glass of champagne!

Any insider tips on restaurants to try?

The Witchery by The Castle is a must if you want to dine next to its celebrity fans, Ewan McGregor is known to be a regular. Hidden down an historic Old Town close, The Secret Garden is the most magical of restaurants.

Your favourite spot for relaxing after a hard day of shopping?

The Printing Press Bar has a great selection of cocktails and is perfectly situated next to the shops on George Street.

Any activities you’d recommend doing in the area?

This year sees the 70th anniversary of the largest arts festival in the world, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Come August the city is the place to be to discover the next big act in comedy or stage doing their debut, or getting distracted by a world-class street performer en route.

Your favourite thing about where you live?

I love the ancient architecture and the history of the city.  It is also amazing to see the buzz of the city as it comes alive during the festival.

What are your three favourite pieces from the new collection?

The Celine print really stands out in the collection.  I cannot wait to wear the top teamed with our Eliza trousers, great with flats or dressed up with a heel on a night out.  When autumn truly kicks in the Rose coat in pink will really help brighten up those dark days!

What is your favourite beauty shop in the area that always help complete a look?

Space NK on George Street has all the brands I love and it is hard to resist purchasing my favourite Diptyque candle when I visit.
