Our Neighbourhood Guide: Chelsea

This week we asked our Creative Director, Alison Mansell, to give us her insider tips on how to make the most of your trip to Chelsea, in celebration of the upcoming Chelsea Flower Show. From contemporary art galleries, to boutique shopping or the perfect spot for tea and cake – our guide is guaranteed to keep you and the whole family entertained. Don’t forget to also enter our competition to win two tickets to Chelsea Flower Show on Saturday 27th May 2017, plus £350 to spend online with us!

What is the one must-see place to visit in Chelsea?

There are so many fab places around the Chelsea Flower Show; all in walkable distance or five minutes cab ride at most! However, for those who want to see even more flowers and gardens all year round, the Chelsea Physic Gardens are a definite must-see when you are in the area. Or if you fancy a day of culture you can get inspired by also visiting the famous Saatchi Gallery at Duke of York’s square.

Where is your favourite place for a spot of afternoon sweet treat?

Peggy Porschen is the most fabulous cake and coffee shop. The shop is beautiful if you want a sweet treat, while taking a break from exploring the shops, in a pretty and picturesque space. The cakes designs are exquisite and most importantly absolutely delicious!

Any insider tips on restaurants/bars to try?

The Big Easy is more towards the end of Kings Road and serves fab lobster, crab and steak dishes that are very reasonably priced.

Or a hidden little gem of mine has to be the La Poule Au Pot on Elizabeth Street, for those who would like to try a lovely little French Bistro. It is nestled on the corner of a tiny square again with lots of interesting Antique shops.

What is your favourite spot for relaxing after a hard day of shopping?

Very posh with a price tag to match - Gordon Ramsey’s flagship restaurant is the ultimate luxurious treat. Practically a short walk from the flower show this restaurant will need booking in advance but is definitely worth the effort.

Anything you’d recommend doing in the area?

Heading to Elizabeth Street. It is the most beautiful little street with lots of independent boutiques and charming cafes. If you want a leisurely paced shopping experience and unique retailers full of character then this is the perfect small street.

What are your favourite beauty shops in the area that always help complete a look?

My favourite place has to be the shop Jo Loves (the showcase shop for the lady behind the Jo Malone brand).  I love the innovative and luxury fragrances.

What are your favourite pieces from the new collection?

I always love popping into Peter Jones on Sloane Square to see our designs on the shop floor, it really brings the collection to life for me. This season I adore the soft silk Barcelona Dress and striking floral motifs of the Croatia Dress, these are the perfect sophisticated pieces for an occasion. For holiday, I am definitely going to be packing the Kefalonia Dress (coming soon), I love the pop of colour and relaxed shape – plus it can be easily styled with your favourite pair of sandals.
