Our Neighbourhood Guide: Manchester

This week we asked the lovely Karen at our concession in Trafford Centre, Manchester to give us her insider tips on how to make the most of your trip to the city.  From indoor skiing, to a skyline bar or a peaceful stroll around the canals, the list of brilliant stuff to do just goes on and on. What is the one must-see place to visit in Manchester?

The Manchester museum of science and industry is a fabulous day out for all ages. Time just flies by, the aircraft warehouse is particularly impressive as is the recreation of underground Victorian Manchester. And what's more it's free to visit!

Where is your favourite place for a spot of afternoon tea?

A visit to the Lowry hotel’s River Restaurant for afternoon tea is a real treat. It's traditional with a contemporary twist offering dainty sandwiches, and delicious sweet treats served in a relaxing atmosphere. Oh and as much earl grey as you can manage!


Any insider tips on restaurants/bars to try?

For a cocktail with a view head to the 23rd floor of the legendry Beetham Tower at the Hilton hotel. Grab a bite to eat or just sip a drink whilst enjoying the panoramic views over Manchester. By day watch the world go by down below and by night see Manchester light up.

What is your favourite spot for relaxing after a hard day of shopping?

The Spa at the Midland Hotel is the ultimate place to relax. Try the hanging pods to curl up in and read a book after you've experienced the thermal experience spa - pure bliss!

Any activities you’d recommend doing in the area?

The Chill Factore right next door to Trafford is well worth a visit. You really don't have to be a skier to enjoy a day out there. Enjoy a hot chocolate from the viewing balcony outside the Mont Blanc Cafe and then browse the shops for everything snow related.

Your favourite thing about where you live?

The endless shops, cafes, bars and restaurants are a real joy in Manchester but then you can jump on a tram or train and in no time find yourself right in the middle of the countryside. There really is something for everyone.

What are your three favourite pieces from the new collection?

The Marseille Jumpsuit is a definite favourite as it is such a versatile piece. It can be accessorised with heels and a hat for a quirky wedding outfit or strappy sandals for an evening holiday beach walk. The Lyon trousers are also fabulous to dress either up or down.

What are your favourite accessories and beauty shops in the area that always help complete a look?

For beauty, bath and home Jo Malone is the place for everything, the hand treatment is just so indulgent. For anything a little different head up to the Northern Quarter with lots of independent quirky shops.
