Black Friday

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is the largest day of the year for online and in-store sales in the UK. The term was first popularised in the early 2000’s and when it started it was a one-day event, however over the years it has grown and now usually lasts for a few days. The Black Friday offer will run into Cyber Monday, which is another annual sales event, but online only.

We offer our best promotion of the year for our Black Friday and Cyber Monday event, which kicks off the Christmas shopping season.

When is Black Friday?

Black Friday falls on the last Friday in November each year. This year, Black Friday is on Friday 23rd November 2018, and cyber Monday is on Monday 26th November 2018.

How did it start?

Black Friday started in the USA, as a sale spectacular starting the day after Thanksgiving, which falls on the fourth Thursday in November.

Why is it called Black Friday?

The term originated in Philadelphia, where it was used to describe the heavy pedestrian and road traffic that would occur on the day. As the phrase became more widespread, a popular explanation became that the day represented the point at which companies begin to turn a profit, thus going from being "in the red" to being "in the black".
